A Modern Day Jazzmatazz? – Honest Music
On a first hearing St/Mic’s new record Honest Music has that Jazzmatazz mentallity (e.g. Too Much), Blackstar feel (e.g. Keep it Low) and even the lyrical agility of modern MC’s like Sage Francis (e.g. Walk This Place). St/Mic is producing beats Madlib would be proud of, incorporating cuts reminiscent of the Dilated Peoples/Jurassic 5 dominated era of hip-hop and burning the mic with nimble-syllable riddles. For those (most of us) who are used to power punch pop productions that hit you instantly with 110%; you will need to give this one a few listens. As with most substantial art it reveals more depth with each visit.

Guest talent on this album helps keep interest throughout. I don’t drive but if I did I know I’d take this music on the road for a 1am night ride. Late night music…
I have side project/sound/genre/lifestyle brewing at the moment under the name of ‘Soul Coffee’. If summarizing this album in two words, it’d be those…’dogg it sounds like that Soul Coffee you digg’?! Whether you want to call it Jazz Rap, Hip-Hop, Soul Coffee or Alternative it is an music rich in substance and sophistication. It’s only $5 dollars on band camp. Do yourself a flavor and get this one on the download or stream it for free at http://stmic.bandcamp.com/album/honest-music.
Peace.
